Eastern Market After Dark 2023

This is one of my favorite Events in Detroit is Eastern Market After Dark. Part of Design Core / UNESCO Month OF Design. Detroit was named a UNESCO City of Design. Detroit was the first and only in the US. There are 34 cities worldwide in total.

Description on the Design core website

“As a UNESCO City of Design, Detroit is part of a network of 34 cities around the world using design to improve the lives of everyday people. This designation puts Detroit’s design assets to work, ensuring a more sustainable and equitable future for all Detroit residents.

As a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), our goal is to establish Detroit’s unique role as a global leader in inclusive design through collaborative action.”

Eastern Market is a location that was first used all the way back in 1850’s as a market location. In 1974 it was designated a Michigan State Historic site. Today it has everything from arts & crafts to food at the market days (Tuesday, Saturday, & Sunday) in the sheds. There are many businesses inside the buildings outside of the shed within the designated area. At this event the sheds are open at night and host all types of venders. Other locations in the outside businesses & on the streets are open too.

If your into popcorn you need to try Mystic Kettle.

Want to save the bee’s? Detroit Hives is a great place to look. They help with conservation, education, and revitalization.

From their website “Live6 Alliance is a neighborhood-based community planning and development organization working to advance economic development strategies that increase opportunity and enhance the quality of life in Northwest Detroit. Live6 is a one-stop shop for authentic, inclusive neighborhood revitalization with a particular focus on the Livernois and McNichols corridors. The organization serves as central convener and coordinator between the community, institutions, and key stakeholders who contribute to the advancement of our district.”

A well know Detroit social media content creator Colin McConnell. He has a clothing line “Detroit Respect”, books, Merch, and Ducktape art. With the holiday right around the corner it’s a great place to get gifts for family & friends.

Andrea Burg is a local Fine Art & tattoo artist. She was painting a watercolor during the even for everyone.
